"Red and Blues"

Kansas Highway Patrol

I once saw a police car at the age of threes, and thought,

"That’s what I want to do, and that’s who I want to be."
"I want to have my red and blues flashing at you."

I want to be the one who pulls you over when you’re driving too fast,
I want to be the one to help when you run out of gas.

I want to be the one little kids look up to,
I want to be the one who knows just what to do.

I want to be the one who locks you up when you beat your wife,
I want to be the one who’ll lay down his life.

I want to be the one who’s mad at you,
Because you’ve been drinking and you thought,
"I’m fine, I’ll drive home too."

And I don’t want to be the one knocking on your door saying,
"Daddy didn’t wear a seatbelt, he won’t be coming home anymore."

Now when the time for me has come,
And you’re wondering where I’ve gone.

Don’t worry, I’m never far away,
I’ll be watching you each and every day.

Just look in your rearview mirror and you’ll see that’s where I’ll be,
Always watching and waiting,

Always with my red and blues watching over you.
