"Shoot Out"

Today is the day it will be decided
My old friend solemnly confided
Be fast on the draw and light on the trigger
You'll do just fine, that's what I figger

The sun hung high in the sweltering sky
And everyone knew the time was nigh
History was about to record the story
Would I fall in shame or bask in glory

We stepped off about 15 paces
No expression on anyone's faces
The signal came for us to draw
A flash of gun powder is all I saw

I was still standing when the smoke started to clear
Now was the time to confirm my worst fear
The crowd started cheering out of the blue
But I saw my opponent still standing too

My breathing quickened, my heart was a race
As I glared at the man without a face
I had performed well, as was my plan
Until the next time I challenge the paper man.
