"The Call" |
|
For those that threw caution to the wind and were courageous enough to do their job with little thought of themselves. Sadly - It reflects those killed in the line of duty! |
I SIT ALONE ON THE MIDNIGHT SHIFT
JUST WAITING FOR THE CALL
A CHURCH, THE GROCERY STORE, OR EVEN THE MALL
THE NIGHT GROWS DARKER
THE CHILL BECOMES STRONG
I KNOW SOMEONE IS OUT THERE
JUST WAITING TO DO WRONG
THE RADIO BREAKS THE SILENCE
SHOTS FIRED-ONE PERSON MAY BE DEAD
THE DISPATCH WARNS ME OF WHAT LIES AHEAD
A MAN IN A ALLEY
NO ONE SAW HIM FALL
THAT WAS ALL THE INFORMATION
WHEN GIVEN THE CALL
I ARRIVED ON SCENE
THE VICTIM ON HIS BACK
THIS IS WHAT HE GOT
FOR A OUNCE OF CRACK
A HOLE IN HIS CHEST
HIS BODY STILL SMOKING
HE COULDN'T SAY A WORD
FROM HIS OWN BLOOD
HE WAS CHOKING
THE SUSPECT STUCK AROUND
HOPING OUT OF SIGHT
BUT WHEN I LOOKED DOWN THE ALLEY
HE DECIDED TO TAKE FLIGHT
I CHASED HIM DOWN THE ALLEY
AND THROUGH A WOODEN DOOR
THAT'S WHEN I SAW THE FLASH
AND HEARD THAT .38 ROAR
AT 3:OO A.M. THE PHONE RANG
FOR MY WIFE WHO'S HEARD IT ALL
BUT THIS TIME SHE COULDN'T ANSWER
FOR SHE KNEW IT WAS THE CALL
