"The Real Life Nightmare"
We heard those words,
but it didn't seem quite right.
Who were they to say
who was wrong and who was right.
Where were they
on that hot and frightful day?
Where were they
when the officer was forced to make that choice?
Did anyone ever think,
of the pain the officer is feeling,
or did anyone notice the fear in his eyes
When he knew he had to pull the trigger?
Instead of sympathy,
Instead of support
All the officer received
was grief from all.
No one ever thinks
of the fear officers face each and everyday.
No one ever thinks
that each day may be an officer's last.
The day an officer gets respect
is the day he lies in a flag draped casket.
And on that day, the members of the team in blue
Will think of how one day that could be them.
